Tornado Tales: Encounters with Nature’s Most Violent WindFollow along with Paul Douglas as he chases tornadoes in Oklahoma, tagging along with professional scientists gathering information about these fickle and sometime deadly storms. In the movie, “Twister” the chasers were trying to insert “Dorothy” into a tornado. In real-life the weather instrument’s nickname was “Toto” and it was only ever hit by one tornado, the 1985 Ardmore, Oklahoma twister that Paul, and KARE-11 photographer Bob Durland documented in a hair-raising video documentary. Paul also reviews the July, 1986 Brooklyn Park tornado which touched down, live, during the 5 pm news, with amazing video close-ups of the funnel provided by pilot Max Messmer in Sky-11. It was the first time a tornado was ever tracked, live, during a newscast, and the result was a wild, unpredictable, eye-opening, blow-by-blow account of one of the most-studied tornadoes in U.S. history.
